FAQ: Domio Pro - a game changer in helmet audio & communication

Does the Domio Pro work with a full face helmet?

Absolutely. The Domio Pro and Air Mic ™ come with a mounting set that is compatible with all helmet types. For full face helmets the Air Mic ™ is clipped onto the inside of the chin guard area. Please see the “Mounting your Domio Pro” video half way down the page for a detailed visual of how this works.

How does Vibro-Audio™ work?

Conventionally, we are able to hear sounds due to tiny vibrations traveling through the air, which are then picked up by our inner ear. However, sound is also able to travel effectively through other materials, such as steel, plastics and even water. Some frequencies are actually able to transfer quite well in solid materials - think of being able to hear a train in the distance by putting your ear to the track (but not for too long!). With Domio, we took the same idea and applied it to the helmet. The helmet is often constructed with a rigid outer shell usually with a plastic such as polycarbonate and a inner shell such as an expanded polystyrene foam. Each material has various properties, such as speed of sound and acoustic impedance, that determine how sound travels through it. It turns out the materials in plastics have actually pretty good baseline properties and can conduct sound quite well. Because the helmet has a concave shape and is fit quite snugly, the sound is then able to enter the user’s ears through two paths: i) through the helmet and then head itself by traveling through the skull and ii) through the surrounding air and into the inner ear as conventional sound works. So the user is able to hear through multiple paths. One big advantage of this is that if the user wishes to use earplugs to protect from a loud environment (think straight pipes on a highway), they can still hear sound with the Domio Pro as it travels through the first path (helmet and head).

How does the Air Mic™ work?

The wireless Air Mic™ employs the latest Bluetooth standard. Bluetooth is a ubiquitous communications protocol that dates back over 20 years. The Air Mic™ is the first wireless mic for any consumable wearable in the world using the most recent Bluetooth 5 standard. The significant advantage of BT5 is it allows audio to be streamed (such as voice from a mic) while operating at a very low energy state. This translates into smaller battery capacity requirement which allows us to keep the mic form factor compact and perfect for use on helmets.

The Air Mic™ works well at picking up voice due to three factors. First, we utilize a dual beamforming microphone set up - yes the Air Mic is actually two separate microphones. The microphones are positioned and programmed in a way to pick up sound from specific areas - in this case the area right around the mouth. All other surrounding sounds such as from an engine are significantly reduced. Second, the Domio electronics include noise cancellation algorithms, which are designed to electronically accentuate desired voice sounds and attenuate background noise. Lastly, the Air Mic employs physical materials like foams and screens to reduce direct wind noise. The result is incredible voice clarity!

Does Domio Pro allow for rider to rider intercom?

Domio Pro enables riders to make and take mobile calls, and speak/listen directly through their helmet wearable device. For rider to rider comms we are working on a mobile based app that will allow for riders to speak directly to other riders intercom style, this app will be fully compatible with the current Domio Pro version.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
